Our favorite resource is the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy ....a great organization for off-road, rail-trail cycling. Their Trail-Link site is a great way to locate rail-trails anywhere in the US, including several in the Mid-Atlantic area available for a day trip. Tops on our list (so far!) is the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Md.
